New Exhibition Carte Postale at Gallery Fifty One in Antwerp

Opening Saturday, November 23, Saul Leiter: Carte Postale at Gallery FIFTY ONE in Antwerp, Belgium, presents a series of small, postcard-size prints made by Leiter in his darkroom in the 1960s and early 1970s. “Saul often placed them in albums with black pages and gifted them to appreciative friends,” SLF director Margit Erb writes in the catalog for the show. “He even mailed a few. The tiny photographs demand that you lean in close to view them. In fact, the more you can shut out your surroundings as you look at them, the stronger the impact of their miniature worlds.” Many of these prints were discovered recently by the foundation and are being shown for the first time. The exhibition, which also features a selection of color photographs, is open through January 2, 2025.
